Heroin dealer sentenced

by Andrew Maciejewski - amaciejewski@h-ponline.com

Huntington County law enforcement have now successfully convicted five of 12 drug dealing suspects from the drug bust in December of 2018.

Robert J. Hardy, 37, of Fort Wayne, was sentenced on Monday to serve six years in prison and three years on probation after he pleaded guilty to a Level 3 felony charge of dealing a narcotic drug and a Level 4 felony charge of dealing a narcotic drug weighing between one and five grams, according to the sentencing order.

Hardy is ordered to complete a drug and alcohol program, and if successfully completed, he could receive time off his sentence.

On May 3, 2017, Hardy sold nearly 2 grams of heroin to a confidential informant working for the Huntington Police Department, and on May 4, 2017, Hardy sold 4.5 grams of heroin to another confidential informant.

Heroin is a schedule I narcotic controlled substance.

Nix previously said that the arrests and convictions are meant to hopefully deter others from dealing drugs in the county.

“Our local law enforcement officers do an excellent job of conducting controlled substance investigations,” Nix said previously to the Herald-Press. “The evidence they collect in most cases does not leave much room to contest the elements of the offenses. We do hope that as drug dealers are convicted and sentenced that other people who might start dealing drugs in our community are convinced that it is not worth the time they might spend in prison.”

Misty Star Smith, 36, was sentenced to 18 years in prison and seven years on probation after pleading guilty to a Level 2 felony charge of dealing a schedule II narcotic within a drug-free zone.

Damek Vogleman, 23, was sentenced to ten years in prison and eight years on probation after he pleaded guilty to a Level 2 felony charge of dealing a controlled substance and a Level 6 felony of dealing a controlled substance.

Javaun David Houston, 21, was sentenced to serve 14 years in prison and four years on probation after pleading guilty to a Level 2 felony charge of dealing narcotic drug and a Level 3 felony charge of dealing cocaine.

Cameron Levi Martin, 22, was sentenced to serve six years in prison and four years on probation after he pleaded guilty to a Level 4 felony charge of dealing methamphetamine and a Level 6 felony charge of dealing a substance represented to be methamphetamine.

The following suspects still await pending trials:

Clifton Ray Rose, 42, Elizabeth Michelle Eckert, 23, Jordan Lee Kipp, 26, Regina Renee McBride, 35, Austin Lee Estep, 25, Nichalas Neils Howard, 24.
