On Tuesday, Huntington Mayor Richard Strick signed a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month during a ceremony in the city council chambers.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 40 percent of Indiana women and roughly 27 percent of Indiana men “experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes.” In the proclamation, Strick pointed to the work done by the YWCA of Northeast Indiana to combat domestic violence.
