Railroad repairs to close Grayston, Condit streets

Grayston and Condit streets and railroad crossings will be closed Monday morning at 8 a.m. and close Condit Street by mid-morning for railroad repairs. Detour routes are expected at State, Broadway and Sabine streets around the closed crossings expected to last a week maybe longer over the weekend too.

Two railroad crossings in Huntington will be closed for a week starting Monday.

The crossings are at Grayston Avenue and Condit Street near Laurie Park, and they expect the shutting down of the streets. These will be full road closures and no traffic will be able to cross the tracks during this time, the release stated.

“The locations will be closed Monday May 8, 2023, at 8 a.m. this will be a week-long closure,” stated Tim Bischoff, City Services Superintendent in an email.

The closures are happening because a contractor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad found two rail defects at two locations.

Grayston will be closed at 8 a.m. and then the railroad expects to close Condit Street by mid-morning, but the RR will try to leave this open as long as they can until they have to close it.

According to the map, detour routes are expected at State, Broadway and Sabine streets around the closed crossings.

Both closures are planned for a week, but if more problems are found they could go into the weekend and longer, the release stated.
