Viking player Jeffrey Gross (17) prepares to kick the ball during the team’s 2-1 defeat against Columbia City on Saturday.

The Vikings’ 14-match win streak, and the team’s dream season, came crashing to a halt on Saturday as Huntington North (17-2) fell to Columbia City (14-1-2) in the Sectional Championship.

Since a 2-1 home loss to Warsaw on Aug. 24, the Vikings had won 14 consecutive matches, conceding only six goals in that stretch, with even fewer of those goals coming from the run of play. They often scored at will, as the team’s multitude of capable attacking players put pressure on the defense throughout each match.
