STEUBEN COUNTY — Indiana State Police arrested two men from Massachusetts after the vehicle they were in was found for unsafe lane movement Monday morning on I-80 in Steuben County.

Passenger, Abdulkarim Mbarushimana, 30, Worcester, Massachusetts, was arrested and booked into custody for dealing marijuana, a Level 5 Felony.

After completing a battery of field sobriety tests with the driver, Eric Njoroge Mwangi, 24, Worcester, Massachusetts, he was arrested for allegedly dealing marijuana, a Level 5 Felony, and three misdemeanor charges for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. Monday, Toll Road Post Trooper Casey Davis stopped the 2020 Mercedes SUV for an unsafe lane movement on I-80 near the 140 mm in Steuben County.

Mbarushimana and Mwangi told the officer they were traveling from California back to Massachusetts, both alleged to be showing signs of impairment. Trooper Davis noted there was a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle, as well as open alcohol containers.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a large garbage bag in the spare tire well, which contained 10 bags of suspected Marijuana, each weighing about one pound.

The driver and passenger were both taken into custody and transported to the Steuben County jail for further investigation.

Trooper Davis was assisted in his investigation by Troopers from the Fort Wayne Post, and deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and Bill’s Towing.
